Are You Prepared For The Storm?

SPRING IS NOW HERE! And we're about to start the 2nd quarter of the year.

We welcome the changing temperatures and the possibility to spend more time with the people we care about the most.

Over the last three months many of us were at the mercy of Mother Nature.

And I believe we all received valuable lessons from the winter months on the importance of preparedness (personally, professionally and financially).

Do you have a financial plan for the coming months - maybe to purchase a car, move to a new area, or starting a new job.

Start the conversation here and among your friends and family about how you prepare for the storm.

There is only one path

“Though the road's been rocky it sure feels good to me.” - Bob Marley

I've never been much of a runner. That was something that my dad was a fan of. When I was younger he used to wake me up on Saturday mornings and give me a pair of his old bright yellow US Marines short shorts and 10 minutes to stretch, then we'd be off.

The first few minutes never go as expected but you find a rhythm. After 2 miles you will start to hear a voice in your head. It says "You can't go anymore” “Quit" "Why are you doing this?" "Who are you doing this for?" Answering these voices of doubt, insecurity and fear were mandatory to complete the run. I had to make the decision that I wasn’t going to quit and trust myself through the process.

Now all these years later I look back, understanding these I’ve answered these questions throughout my journey – only without the bright yellow shorts – and will continue to as I progress. I’ve stumbled, been injured and unfocused at times but I’ve yet to quit or given into the temptation of running someone else’s path. I’ve decided there is only one path for me… my own.

As you run your journey I challenge you to ask yourself those same questions and find the answer that will push you further towards your goals. You only have to take one step at a time.

Your future is thanking you!

"....saying that you don’t have time to improve your thoughts and your life is like saying you don’t have time to stop for gas because you’re too busy driving. Eventually it will catch up with you.” - The Monk who sold his Ferrari

I challenge you to not over think this and set aside some time for yourself and then follow up. Your future is thanking you!

What is your brick today?

"You don't set out to build a wall. You don't say 'I'm going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that's ever been built.' You don't start there. You say, 'I'm going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid. You do that every single day. And soon you have a wall." - Will Smith

Over the weekend I was reviewing my list of goals I set out for myself. When the ideas first came to me I automatically thought of the end result and how amazing I wanted everything to be.

It was like I skipped over the hard work, right past the adjustments and learning I would have to endure.

Then I realized I couldn't do any of it without take one step, one action and repeating it until my goal was accomplished. I'm a fan of a goal setting but I'm a bigger fan of the process. For everyone reading this keep it up!

The action you take is one more toward accomplishing your goal.

What is your brick today?

Fear is a choice...

For anyone, like myself, that has been in a situation where you've put in the work, done the research and still hesitated when it was time to execute. I encourage you to remember the following quote. “Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice.” Trust yourself and the time you dedicated to learning.

The Secret To Success: The Beach Story - As told by Eric Thomas

Ask yourself right now: How badly do you want to succeed?
A young man (or woman!) desires to become a successful millionaire, so he goes to see the
wise guru, who knows the ultimate secret to success.
The young man says to the teacher, “I want to become rich and successful. Can you help me?”
The guru smiles and says, “Meet me at the beach tomorrow at 4 AM, and I will tell you the secret
to success.”
So the next morning, the young man shows up on the beach at 4 AM, just like the guru had
asked, wearing a suit and tie. Upon arriving, he realizes that the guru is already in the water
swimming, dressed not in a suit and tie, but in a pair of swimming trunks.
The guru spots the young man and motions for him to come in the water.
So the young man goes knee-deep into the water.
“Come out further,” the guru says.
“This is an expensive suit,” the young man replies, “I came here to learn the secret to success,
not the secret to swimming.”
“The secret must be told in this water. It is your choice to learn the secret or not.”
So the young man goes waist-deep into the water, soaking his expensive suit.
“Further,” the guru says.
The young man becomes irritated.
“Listen old man,” he says with impatience, “I’m already in the water. I didn’t come here for a
swimming lesson. Tell me the secret to success right now or I’m leaving.”
The guru, unaffected by the young man’s outburst, replies calmly, “You are already waist-deep.
What’s a few more steps?”
So the young man wades deeper into the water until the water is up to his neck. The sun is
beginning to rise.
“So tell me the secret,” the young man demands.
The guru says, “Sure,” and suddenly forces the young man’s head under the water.
The young man, caught off guard, swallows salty sea water by accident and begins to drown.
He flails his arms and tries to push the guru off him, but the guru continues to hold the young
man’s head underwater, using all of his strength to keep him there.Just before the young man loses consciousness, the guru pulls the young man back up, who
begins coughing immediately and gasping for air.
The guru immediately asks the young man a question:
“When your head was under water, what did you want to do?”
“Kill…you…” the young man sputtered out between hacking coughs.
He grabs onto the guru with the intention of drowning him, but the young man is still trying to
recover and is unable to push the guru’s head underwater.
“Besides that,” the guru said, pushing the young man’s hands off him. The young man coughs
some more. He looks up at the guru and sees that he is still looking at him, waiting for a
response.
His stern look causes the young man to become enraged.
“I WANTED TO BREATHE!”
He shoves the guru aside violently and begins stumbling towards the shore, coughing up sea
water as he wades and splashes.
What the guru says next however, stops the young man in his tracks:
“When you want success as much you wanted to breathe just now when you were drowning,
then, and ONLY THEN, will you have success.”
And with that, the guru goes back to swimming.

Forget New Year’s Resolutions!

That’s what I told myself at the start of #2013, knowing I had to find a way to get things done in the months after the fireworks had been forgotten. So I talked to people, Google and even tried Bing when they had some commercials that reminded me about them.

Turns out all I needed was paper and a blue pen to plan a year to remember. Here’s what I asked myself:

1) What decision did I make that paid off financially?

2) What didn't pay off?

3) What did I want to do but didn't and why not?

4) What is my priority starting tomorrow?

This worked for me and a couple of my mentors. Do you think it can help you?
